The jovial print makes a major statement this fall in every garment type, fabric and print style!
Be on trend this Fall with billowy spotted blouses, '70s style jumpsuits and dramatic print-all-over maxi dresses.
For the timid, accessorize in the trend. This means, polka dotted scarves, bangles and bags...why not?

In a trend report a bit back I report that pastel blazers and sheer tops were the way to go for Spring. But left you hanging without how to wear it! Don't fret my pet, here's the answer and beautifully put together by WhoWhatWear.com.
Now, show 'em your best laced bra!
Just like I predicted...

We know that Rihanna is the queen of edge and trend. So if she's in the electric purple lipstick for Paris fashion week this is a new trend you saw coming. Hope you bought your purple pout already!

It's the trend and the DIY-frenzy that won't die--Spikes.
Maybe it's just too fun, maybe it's just too cool, maybe because there are always new things to stud, spike or rivet that you never thought to before, but it's certainly a trend that has no end in site. I believe it's time for me to concede to my own spikey dreams--get my oxfords, handbags and turbans in on the action!
Don't forget to vary sizes, placement design and metal finishes of the studs, spike, rivets to differentiate your look and technique from the next "Studding Stacy." What will you be studding?

Though it takes a certain man to pull off the high shine look in extremes, the task is a bit easier for the ladies.
Natalia Vodianova shows us how it's done in this Spring's Issue of V mag as styled by Mario Testino.
Check out Net-A-Porter for a runway video compilation on the trend: Shine On: Runway by Trend at NET-A-PORTER.COM.

Tommy Ton took the shot below for style.com last week for fashion week...but I've defintely been wearing the look for a solid week before that.
Are metal headbands the next hair trend? Charlotte Ronson has already planned for similar headbands in her spring show. See it here.
Email me samantha.smikle@gmail.com for your own chain headband ($12)! But it directly at Odd & Even, NYC. Click HERE.

It's the trend that keeps on trending, and with the '70s on every shop's inspiration board you might as well go out and get your own because the Maxi Skirt is here to stay!
Click on each shot for a link to different ways I've worn my maxis and a previous trend report on the '70s keystone.

The boyfriend blazer trend will be strong right into Spring. But last season's tweeds and navy blue jackets take on a softer edge in brights and blousy fabrics. I love Wangy's mash up of a blazer and a bomber.

It's the "Mullet Effect." A dress, sweater, blouse. It's serious, minimal and basic in the front but like a party in the back, all draped, cut-out buttoned or exposed-zipped. Use the trend to stay conservative, cool and sexy this summer.

I completely agree with the statement in the above editorial from Encens Mag [check out Issue 24, it's crazy!]. But I digress...see below for some street style proof that there is in fact a toning down trend that looks fresher than ever!

A trend for all seasons: tonal dressing. Misunderstood as clashing, but the effect is actually chic and refined. Tip: try with earth toned or muted colors like mauve to experiment.

Is it finally safe to say it? Summer is here! And here's a new trend to set it off, summer fringe.

My nails are currently giving you a fuchsia pink pinkies and fiery orange-red on the rest--amazingly summer and clashing thanks to OPI's [I'm Indi-a Mood for Love + Cajun Shrimp.
I'm a big fan of clashing colors and one finger designs on pinkies or index fingers, rather than the tried and true ring finger decision.
The runways are also expressing an affinity for rule breaking! PINK AND RED! Wear it this Fall says looks from Prabal Gurung [below] and editorials alike. Don't stick to these colors it also works with Blue and green, orange and red, orange and pink...combo are endless!
Will you be trying this trend?

The closet transition from winter to spring always looks like the shift from black and white tv to high def! Pops of color and light contrasting textures gives a new rush to getting dressed. Much like the shot above: splashes of color, leather and metals combine for an image that is characteristically spring.
Take note of the Spring trend: blue! Cerulean, cyan, turq, navy, sky...it'll all be big for the warmer season. Wear different shades together for a modern monochromatic look.

I didn't wear my wide brim fedora nearly enough this past Fall, but I'll make up for it this season with beaded jewelry. Right on trend or not, the Navajo look is classic. Doesn't it bring ol' school Ralph Lauren or Lauren Hutton to mind?

Above are a few pages from "The Book of Beads"which I just picked up from a street vendor in Williamsburg this past weekend. Now for the time to make something...

Now is a great time to be into nails especially with the new almond-shape trend going around. A good polish can brighten up the moments when I catch a glance of my nails.
Wah nails started the whole art for your nails movement with salons everywhere following in their footsteps. Here's a Keith Haring design that I loooove with it's almond shape and others that I thought were great, and lastly my own nails [hot pink with gold pinkies]!

I've been meaning to go to Harlem for a Dashiki. I'm thinking belted and paired with ripped jeans or shorts, it would be right on.
The ethnic trend is still going strong. Hop on it with your own twist!

If you take a look back at my last few "What I Wore" posts, you'll notice that I have an affection for pants of a different nature. They're sometimes geeky, but always quirky.
Drop crotch, tapered or paperbag waisted: Opt for pants that say something this Spring!
The Bruuns Bazaar, one of my favorites, offered so much to look forward to this year. The video wouldn't download! Ugh. But you can view the show here.
In the BZR [younger, diffusion line] show, we see a relaxed look for men and women. The design duo gives us plunging Halston-like necklines for women and loose fitting suits for men.
The signature line gives us a fall trend report with dramatic trench coats of wider sleeves and lapels for women and the super turtlenecks almost hiding the male models faces!

Henrik Vibskov showed us dizzying prints in stripes and polka dots as well as drapy jumpers in brilliant hues.
Louise Amstrup gave us delicate structure, as opposed to hard which we saw by Gareth Pugh, for this Spring. Her pieces move, demonstrating that dramatic, angular clothing is wearable.
