Does my face look puffy? Do I look half asleep?
It's because it is and I was! I was determined to post my look for the first wear of my vintage sweater jacket that I snagged for only 20 bucks at the Sammy D Vintage trunk show a couple weeks ago.
But why am I half asleep? I worked waaaaaay too late and fell asleep deleting pictures off of my memory card so that I could take this shot. I woke up at 2-something AM in my boots, the jacket...everything! And like a trooper, I still took the shot!

I have to say that I was shocked when I checked for the editorial that this amazing story belongs to and found that it was US Harper's Bazaar!
They're giving me conceptual setting and inspiration styling. Something I'd expect to see in a French or Russian something. In any case, I'm excited for the change of pace.

Now is a great time to be into nails especially with the new almond-shape trend going around. A good polish can brighten up the moments when I catch a glance of my nails.
Wah nails started the whole art for your nails movement with salons everywhere following in their footsteps. Here's a Keith Haring design that I loooove with it's almond shape and others that I thought were great, and lastly my own nails [hot pink with gold pinkies]!
Polka dot shorts and a multi colored printed bag. Plus amazing curly hair!
So militant and chic in a turtleneck, combat boots and tied drapy scarf. The shades gives the look a French spoken word cafe look...at least in my head that where you'd find this look.
The Hester Street Fair turned out to be this market in a small section of the park of about 40 designers and stores as vendors. Super manageable and intimate.
My fave were Devotte shoes for they're vibrant colored suede sandals with metal embellishments for a glamour/80's/gladiator feel, Gargyle for their selection of Karen Walker and Super shades, and Elma Blint Jewelry from the Baubles &Thorn shop. I bought this beautifully delicate evil eye necklace from her. At only 25 bucks it gave me enough reason to make an ATM run! But all her jewelry is beautiful and inspirational for me.
I also visited Chioma [far right] at her and her amazing friends stand where she was selling my Odd & Even NYC jewelry. I bought a great accordian pleated sheer leopard print maxi skirt from them and snagged a shot of the accessories stand. My pieces are circled!

Wang's haircut tells all. "This has to be at least a year old," you might be saying to yourself. And you're right, try two. But I've never seen this and I think it's still so interesting. Maybe even more so now that we've seen what he's done since.
I am! My previous editor and friend at Fader Magazine, Chioma Nnadi wil be selling vintage for the first time at the Hester Street Fair and she's asked me for a couple of my pieces to add to her selection! How exciting! She describes what they'll be selling as this:
"The selection is a good combo of Ivy's style (gorgeous separates, striped knits, safari chic) and my mine (crazy prints, overalls, military, stripes, high-waisted everything), so the balance really is spot-on."

I saw Denzel perform last night in Fence in this outfit. I didn't plan it but now the shorts and the shirt and the shoes have a story to tell and it goes like this, "Denzel is epic. And so is Viola. I felt and I cried. The End."
...Autumn/Winter collections now like Giuliano Fujiwara's frame shattering peepers and The Inoue Brothers nubby knits. You'd look great in these, so mark your calendar for when they drop in the fall. Be sure to channel the look with similar pieces til then.

There was a shoulder pad shrine! I love a strong shoulder so the fact that Sammy D Vintage dedicated a whole section to printed shoulder pads was beyond anything I expected!
After a little wine and a cupcake and a half, I approached checkout with a handful of stuff for a whole 45 bucks! What a difference 20% off makes and the proceeds went to GiveHaitiHope.org to send a child to school.
Did I mention that Sammy reduced the sequined ruffled evening dress to 10 bucks because "no one has ever had the courage to buy it!" Sunday evening was a super amazing time.

In a world where ciggies make eyelashes and tears, penises make up smiling mouths and milk squirting baby bottles are breasts, things seem a bit twisted. Aurel Schmidt paints this picture for us in her drawings, the first of which I came across at the Whitney. As admittedly tainted and peculiar as her work is, it also lends a new reality to the world as it is.
Based on the work of hers I saw at the Whitney [see the slideshow for the shot], I assumed Aurel was a man from some foreign country. The work featured a bull figure with this huge human penis standing proudly with a staff of beer cans and a body composed of randomness like more beer cans, pepto bismol and tampons.
Fast forward to just yesterday...I came across the collaboration between Opening Ceremony and that same artist Aurel Schmidt...did a little googling and lo and behold: Aurel's a woman! A Canadian-born 25-year-old with a Woody Allen quirkiness in her style. She's even more amazing now! She's also my best friend. Yup, as of yesterday. But she's also tight with Oliver Zahm...

Some people say the shoe makes the 'fit and that's true. But can't you make a solid outfit out of nothing as long as you have a brand new pair of bottoms?!
