I first came across this ad in my girl's Harper's Bazaar...upon which I tore it out. Thanks girlie! I think it's the mondrian-esque backdrop that sucked me in. The sum of all it's parts is what makes this ad amazing for me...amazing enough to want to frame--dont judge me. ;)
Is it that the guy above wears those quirky round lens shades with absolute seriousness? or the way the Timberland brogue, fair isle socks and plaid print on the underside of the cuff go so perfectly together that it seems that the pant, shoe and sock were sold in a bundle.
Whatever it is, keep on doing it.
Contrasting textures and fabrics between the design of the arm and torso portion of pieces have been ruling Paris and Milan shows. It's a bold move, allowing the top/jacket to be the statement point of the look. Keep the rest of the styling simple. A white tee is enough at Burberry Prorsum or go for all black sophistication as in Costume National.

Guys, wear this look with precision. The sweats need to be shard and fitted. Ladies, embrace your inner tomgirl...dig way deep if you have to and then juxstapose the look with a sick bootie or platform wedge. And voila, you're a "Half Jock."
A reverse sherling? Armored Balmain-esque shoulders? Burberry Prorsum went a bit left and i'm a bit confused but I like that.
Burberry Prorsum and Tim Hamilton gives us knits for men that are big and cozy enough for the stylish lad and his lady. Both shows a special treatment of texture, providing actual shape rather than bulk.

In short, fashion blogs are here to stay and rule the world. Fashion has become super immediate from live runway show coverage to twitpic-ing a shot of your outfit in a fitting room. Suzy Menkes, Fashion Editor of the Internaltion Herald Tribune is not threatened by it and I'm glad.
Vogue Paris packs there bags and takes it to Morocco...Such a coincidence because I've been very inspired by the whole Moroccan, Egyptian, Ancient East Asia aesthetic. Dree, I feel only stands out because she's in the foreground of all the shots! Freja and Lara pulled the looks off effortlessly.

In high school, I played on the volleyball team...mainly to beef up my resume for college applications but it turned out to be a super significant point in my high school days.
I found this shirt in the clear trash bag of stuff to donate to the salvation army and I suddenly wanted it back! I cropped it that night...longer in the back [which I wanted to show but was told that I look like I'm showing off my butt--which has gotten significantly larger since the holidays...but I'm working on that..let's not talk about it haha--instead of the shirt. So I ixnayed that shot]
Point is: I've resurrected and customized my own vintage athletic tee and can't wait to wear it in the spring!

Grace, style, and tenacity are probably the three best words to describe Mrs. Eunice Johnson. She, alongside her husband John H. Johnson, became publishing powers in the 1960s with the development of Jet and Ebony magazines. Mrs. Johnson was also the creator and director/producer of Ebony Fashion Fair fashion shows since 1961. The traveling fashion show gave Pat Cleveland her first chance, supported Black designers like B Michael and Tracy Reese and raised and donated over $55 million to charity.
Johnson also introduced designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Bill Blass to the Black community who were thought to be unable to afford such luxuries. In its beginning stages, designers would not lend clothes for Fashion Fair events. She one-upped them by flying to Paris,Milan, wherever and bought the pieces she wanted for the shows. THAT'S power! From this, the uber successful Fashion Fair cosmetic line was birthed.
Last week, the Metropolitan Museum of Art feted Mrs. Johnson and honored her legacy. The luncheon was planned months ago, but took on a deeper meaning due to her passing. Anna Wintour, Michaela Angela Davis, Veronica Webb, amongst others looked on as Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama (via Desiree Rogers) delivered the keynote addresses.
On a personal note, Jet and Ebony were always in my house growing up. Without realizing, they instilled in me that Black is indeed beautiful and that we were included in the fabric of the fashion industry. I knew that whatever I did in fashion, that Fashion Fair was always a safe haven. Mrs. Johnson reached for the stars, played hardball when she had to and did it all with a chic bob and a mean pout. I could never thank her enough for the role that she indirectly played in my life and her drive that has forever etched her name in American history.

I agree that you shouldn't wear a complete runway look...or a look all of one designer. But high heels with shorts is not a must for me.
